Why Pests Become More Active After Rain
Heavy rain can change pest behavior quickly. As the ground becomes saturated, ants, roaches, spiders and other pests may leave their usual hiding places in search of higher, drier shelter. Unfortunately, that can lead them straight toward your home.
Florida’s combination of warmth, humidity and frequent rainfall also provides pests with the moisture they need to thrive. Cracks around doors and windows, gaps around utility lines and other small openings can give them an easy way inside.
ANTS
Heavy rain can flood ant colonies and force ants to search for higher, drier ground. This often sends them toward foundations, patios, garages and inside homes.
Why You may notice them
Trails around doors and windows, ants along baseboards, or increased activity around kitchens and bathrooms.
Roaches
Heavy rain can drive cockroaches out of saturated outdoor areas, drains and hiding places as they search for dry shelter. This can increase activity around garages, kitchens and bathrooms
Why You may notice them
Roaches near sinks, drains, garages or entry points, especially during periods of frequent or heavy rainfall.
Spiders
Rain can disrupt spiders and the insects they feed on. As other pests move toward sheltered areas around your home, spiders often follow their food source.
Why You may notice them
More webs around eaves, lanais, pool cages, windows and other covered areas after periods of wet weather.

Cove PEst Services Tip
After heavy rain, check around doors, windows, garages, pool cages and other sheltered areas for increased pest activity. Catching activity early can help prevent a small issue from becoming a bigger problem.
